So, as I mentioned in my previous movie post, the plot of the newest Pretty Cure movie, “Smile Precure: Eihon no Naka wa Minna Chiguhagu”, is largely about Japanese fairy tales. (A few others too, but mostly Japanese ones.)
Within the plot, the movie character, Niko, gives the girls a chance to pick any fairy tale character they want and then live out that story. This is a scan from the movie pamphlet with the girls and their respective choices, plus summaries of the stories.
Miyuki chose Cinderella, not too surprising. Yayoi choose Saiyuuki, which is the Japanese name for “Journey to the West”, the Chinese tale that Dragon Ball Z is based off of. I don’t know if DBZ exists in Yayoi’s universe, but if it did, she’d probably love it XD Next, Reika chose Momotaro, a story about a boy born from a peach who grows up to defeat an island of demons. It’s known as somewhat of a traditional, patriotic Japanese story, so it actually fits Reika nicely. Akane chose Issunboushi, which is kind of a Japanese reverse Thumbelina, which she chose because… actually, I have no idea. If she gave a reason, I don’t remember it! -_-; Then, finally, Nao chose Urashimataro, a Japanese story about a fisherman who is treated to a feast in an underwater castle after saving a turtle. One guess why Nao picked that XDInterestingly, except for Miyuki, all of them chose to be male characters XDD
